In 1989 – 90 Kashmir, zealots storm and banish Kashmiri Hindu Pandits from the vale using the watchword"Raliv Galiv ya Chaliv" (" convert, leave or die"). Pushkar Nath Pandit fears for the safety of his son Karan, who has been indicted by the zealots to be an Indian asset. Pushkar requests his friend Brahma Dutt, a civil menial, for the protection of Karan. Brahma travels with Pushkar to Kashmir and notices the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. He takes up the issue with J&K's chief minister who suspends Brahma.

Militant commander Farooq Malik Bitta, also a former pupil of Pushkar, breaches Pushkar Nath's house. Karan hides in a rice vessel but is plant and shot by Bitta. Pushkar and his son-in- law Sharda maintain for their lives. Bitta compels Sharda to eat rice soaked in Karan's blood in exchange for their lives. After Bitta and his gang leave the house, Pushkar takes Karan to the sanitarium and requests the croaker Mahesh Kumar to save Karan's life. Still, the sanitarium gets taken over by zealots, who prohibit the sanitarium staff from treatingnon-Muslims. Latterly, Karan succumbs to injuries from shots.
